Scouts have great Balls!
Good reason to smile... as once again
the band recently offered to play at Alderbury Scout Group
fundraiser which this year was an Autumn Ball, and a great
success it was too!
After weeks of advertising and selling
tickets, and a full afternoon spent decorating the village
hall, it finally came to the evening of the Ball! All worries
of being able make up numbers at such a difficult financial
time evaporated as mums and dads turned up in dinner jackets
and ball gowns, with their children from the local Beavers,
Cubs and Scouts to support the event. With the Wiltshire Scouts
County Commissioner also attending it was all eyes on the
band to produce a couple of entertaining live sets throughout
the evening .
It wasn't long before the band had
people up dancing and with a delicious buffet supper in the
interval along with disco music and a raffle the whole evening
proved a great success, finally ending on the colossal Robbie
Williams hit "Angels".
An early estimate of over £500 has been raised so
a brilliant effort by all involved. This will now be put forward
as the 10% deposit the Scouts need to secure a £5000
grant they have applied for from the local council to be able
to kit out the whole Scout group with new camping gear .."
Gin gang goolly goolly goolly goolly what's it.... "
If you have any doubt about the musicianship in Innervision
then take a look at Dave's latest guitar solo offering on
Youtube. Not that Dave is going to blast you away with this
masterpiece at your wedding or function but it does show the
level of playing ability within the band. The whole band strive
to practice on a regular basis always aiming to give you the
best live performance we can produce at your function..."rock
on matey!"
The band had a great day at the Bath
Chronicle Wedding Fayre in the Pavilion Theatre, Bath on Sunday
12th October.
Despite requiring an early 7.30am set off to get to the venue
in time to complete both our stage set up and to arrange our
display stand, we arrived at the venue with plenty of enthusiasm.
Within a couple of hours we were ready for the 11 o'clock
opening. After both our morning and afternoon live sets our
stand was very busy with couples grabbing any information
they could on the band to take away with them, as well as
taking a few bookings on the spot.
This
was a good oportunity to hear and see the band live and take
away useful information packs, leaflets, demo CDs, and have
a chance for prospective clients to have a good chat with the
band about what we could offer their particular evening reception.
If you missed us at the wedding fayre don't forget you are welcome
to come to see and hear us at one of our regular practice sessions
in Salisbury on a Tuesday evening.
Innervision have been invited to play on
the main stage at the Bath Chronicle newspapers wedding fayre
which is being held in The Bath Pavilion on 12th October 2008.
We have been asked to play a half hour live set of music before
both of the main bridal fashion shows which will take place
in the morning and during the afternoon of the wedding fayre.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in booking
the band to come along and see and hear exactly what we do
live, as we will be using our full lightshow and P.A.
The band will also have an exhibition area
at the wedding show where you will be able to meet and talk
to band members and pick up information leaflets and demo
CDs. We will also have booking forms at the ready should anyone
wish to book up on the day. It should be a very interesting
and useful event for anyone getting married, with all types
of other wedding services on show throughout the day.
A few months ago Trevor answered the phone
at home to receive a call enquiring about booking the band.
Nothing unusual with this, apart from it was an English guy
with a slight American twang in his accent! On further enquiry
Trevor realised the client was calling from California USA!
His first reaction was to politely mention that although the
band are always prepared to travel to most venues, flying
the band halfway around the world to do one gig wasn't really
going to be an option... well at least not without a huge
fee to cover traveling!!
However, a few minutes into the conversation
all became clear, we would be playing at a party in Cirencester,
Gloucestershire at the brand new Four Pillars Hotel at the
beautiful Cotswold Water Park. The client was returning to
his home
town with his family to celebrate his 60th
birthday party with relatives and old time friends he hadn't
seen for quite a while having spent the past 20 years in the
USA! Most of the communications from then on were through
e-mail due to the time difference between here and the US
and eventually with a contract signed and deposit paid by
bank transfer we were all booked up.
The band had a great time at the party playing
to a really great bunch of people. We had been invited to
join in the party and really appreciated the very friendly
atmosphere and hospitality we were shown from the start. We
would like to say a big thank you to Pat and Kathy for booking
us... who knows, one day we might even make it over to California!
As you can see from the earlier news story
we were very sad to loose our previous keyboard player, Karl,
early in the New Year. However things have to move on and
we are more than happy to say that, with a bit of good luck,
the band managed to find a great new local keyboard player
fairly quickly.
So a big warm welcome to Andy
Brockway.
Andy has had a mammoth task on his hands,
not only having to learn all the songs on the band's playlist,
but at the same time having to practice with the rest of the
band on a regular basis. It is not just a case of getting
to know the songs but also learning our specific arrangements
of the them and gelling with how the rest of the band play.
We are glad to say a big well done to Andy who now has the
majority of the old set under his belt. We will soon start
to introduce some new material into the band's playlist so
keep an eye on the website Playlist
page!
The band has recently played with Andy at
a couple of very successful charity events which have been
ideal warm-up gigs. We now look forward to the very busy wedding
season that's just about to start.
After seven long years of playing, practicing,
buying & lugging gear in and out of venues all over the
South of England, and after a lot of deliberation Karl has
decided it is time to leave the band. This has been due to
Karl setting up a dairy engineering company of his own with
his father. As with all new businesses it needs 100% of Karl's
time and effort over the next few years, which he feels will
leave very little time to dedicate to the hectic schedule
of practicing, playing, recording and traveling that the band
requires.
We will all inevitably miss Karl who has
always been a great and reliable member of the band (he's
never missed a gig ). Seven years is a very long time to be
playing with any band and we have had some great times together
over the years playing a huge number of gigs in a variety
of venues which we will all fondly remember.
We would all like to thank Karl for his perseverance,
dedication, reliability and even now his ongoing help in the
band's changeover period to our new keyboard player Andy.
Karl has always been someone who would do anything to help
anyone, but most importantly we would all like to thank him
for being a great mate .
Innervision recently played at Connells Estate
agents Charity Auction & Ball with all proceeds going to the
Naomi House Children's Hospice which helps children suffering
with cancer. We were only too glad to help out and offered
our services for free for the evening with just some petrol
money to cover our traveling costs. It was a great night for
all the acts involved including local girl group "Aphrodisiac"
who previously appeared in X Factor. Despite freezing weather
and gales there was a full turnout from all who were invited
and a substantial sum raised for a very worthwhile charity.
No comedians... but you had to be there to see the funny side!
Always willing to help out we recently saved
the day during a function at Hoburne's Bashley Park Holiday
Centre at New Milton, Hampshire. We had been booked to play two one hour
slots at The Caravan Club of Great Britain's 2007 AGM evening
party. A cabaret act in the form of a comedian had also been
booked through a local agency for a short set after the evening
dinner. We had previously offered the comedian use of our
sound system for his act but as the start time of the function
approached, there was no sign of a comedian to sound check...
which was no joke!
By the end of our first set there was still
no sign of the comedian and joking aside this had become no
laughing matter!
After being asked by the organisers if we could possibly do
an extra set to cover for the comedian, we quickly put together
an extra set of songs and took full responsibility for the
rest of the evening's entertainment. So with a few humorous
moments along the way we set about saving the evening and
keeping the party going. We followed the live set with a great
mix of disco sounds played through our P.A. system whilst
we took a well earned break!
With a very popular ABBA medley starting our final set we
instantly had everyone up on the dance floor and being a great
audience they stayed there right to the very end. We finished
a very long night with a powerful Byan Adams number followed
by a couple of well deserved encores.
However, the last laugh was on us... as we tried playing a
very unique version of Take That's "A Million Love Songs".
We are no comedians... but you had to be there to see the
funny side.
With months of planning and effort
behind it, the open-air Burgate School reunion 50th Jubilee
Party on Friday 6th July was all ready to go. The only thing
that needed organising was the very bad weather! INNERVISION
had been booked months earlier but with the recent spate of
very wet weather continuing to ruin all things outdoors the
title to our favourite slow song "Aint no sunshine anymore"
was starting to sound all too true.
But as the big day came the sunshine finally broke through
and as luck would have it stayed out all day and right through
the evening and in fact for most of the weekend. Just as well,
with over 1200 people who turned up with picnics for the reunion
party to enjoyed a surprising but lovely summer evening.
It didn't take long for the children at the front to start
the dancing and not long after and a few glasses of wine later
the adults surrendered to the beat of Innervision's music
with everyone up dancing having great fun.
In time honored fashion the evening concluded with fireworks
exploding in the sky above the school to bring the evening
to a very successful end.... A perfect reunion with friends
and sunshine!
After hearing a version of Canon Rock, Dave
was challenged by his son Tom to learn it and post it on Youtube.
Like a true professional (and someone who rises to a challenge!)
here is the result....
After a very successful 2006 Downton Cuckoo
Fair, it was suggested that we might be invited back for this
year's 2007 event. Unfortunately we were only approached to
play at this year's fair a couple of weeks before the event.
Much to our disappointment we had already been contracted
to play at a wedding reception and with the Cuckoo fair being
such a long day we could not support both events on the same
day .
The INNERVISION diary is always booked up well in advance,
the wedding on this particular day was contracted a good 10
months earlier! The band policy is obviously to give preference
to any contract already signed.
It 's not uncommon for the band to have two or three clients
interested in the same date and so we always recommend clients
make a decision to book as early as possible. We can then
secure their date with a signed contract to avoid any disappointment
and then work on a "first come first served" basis.
We apologise to anyone who was expecting to see the band at
this years Cuckoo fair... if we are invited back maybe we
will see you there next year !
After weeks of planning and a morning of setting up, the
curtains were finally raised at 2.30pm on Saturday 17th February
at the Salisbury City Hall for the District Scouts' Centenary
Party. With the band playing Happy Birthday, accompanied by
an 800 strong chorus of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and their leaders
it was a great start to the event.
After a quick intro by Spire FM 's breakfast DJ Chris Ewington
we started our "set proper" with the drums hitting
out the massive BOOM BOOM Crack! ... BOOM BOOM Crack! of Queen's
"We will Rock You". Teresa immediately had everyone
doing the textbook hand clapping actions and singing along
to the chorus whilst Dave blasted the audience with the final
blistering guitar solo in true Brian May "We will rock
you" fashion! What a start to the party!
The band finished the first set on a Brian Adams Classic "Summer
of '69 " before Chris was back on to introduce Jonathan
the Jester. A half hour of amazing stunts followed dotted
with his usual cheeky patter and finishing on a death-defying
act juggling with knives whilst walking astride a selection
of Cubs, Scouts and Leaders. Ouch!
After a short break Jonathan with a magician were back to
complete their act leaving the band to finish the party with
an energetic second set, finishing on the huge Robbie Williams
hit "Angels" accompanied by the whole audience waving
side to side whilst singing along right to the massive ending
..... " We Will Rock You" ... and we certainly
did!
Following on from the recent success of the Alderbury
Scouts Christmas bash the band has been booked to help celebrate
Salisbury Districts Scouts Centenary of Scouting party at
the City Hall Salisbury on 17th February.
INNERVISION have been asked to open and close the event with
two live sets in front of a 900 capacity audience of Beavers,
Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and Scout Leaders from past and present.
The event will also include Spire FM's breakfast show
DJ Chris Ewington, local children's entertainer Jonathan the
Jester and a well known magician/illusionist from Bournemouth,
as well as a huge 100th birthday cake.... wonder who will
be blowing the candles out on that!
INNERVISION recently played at Alderbury
Scouts main fund raising event of the year, the December “BIG
BASH“. The Band were helping the Scouts raise money for activities
planned for 2007 to celebrate a centenary of Scouting. We
offered to play two hours of our usual dance oriented chart
music and gave our services to the Scouts for free. With the
years of experience playing at functions behind us we were
also able to offer some good advice to help make their event
go really well.
So with over a 150 tickets sold, a
delicious buffet prepared by some of the mums, a cheap bar
provided by the local club, raffle prizes donated by the two
local pubs & Post Office and plenty of great live music
to dance to, the evening set off at a
pace with Teresa keeping the atmosphere
in full swing. We had one hairy moment when the hall lights
were affected by a faulty electrical supply, but being plugged
into the stage electrics the band managed to carry on without
any problems.
The night ended with everyone having
a great time with a final result of over £500 being raised
for the Alderbury Scout Group. So well done to all who were
there, we were more than happy to help and had a great time
raising.... Big Bucks for the BIG BASH.
It's
very rare that the band has a panic on their hands although
a recent Saturday morning was just such an occasion.
Having his first lie in for a good few days, Trevor was suddenly
awoken by a phone call from Teresa our vocalist who was in the
accident and emergency department at Southampton General Hospital
with a suspected broken ankle! Not an ideal situation considering
the band had been booked to play at a wedding reception that
evening. Teresa was obviously unsure whether she could even
get to the gig let alone stand up, front the band and sing all
night! Trevor suggested she call him back as soon as she knew
the outcome of her X-ray!
An hour later, with a couple of music
agencies trying to find a band to stand in for us just in
case, Teresa finally called back! The good news was that although
it was painful to stand, her ankle was not broken it was only
badly sprained. As with all these situations the final call
had to be Teresa's and typically she was far more worried
about letting down the wedding couple and the band than she
was with her own discomfort from her ankle!
So later, with a brief explanation of the day's events and
an apology to the bride and groom, Teresa started the first
of the live sets perched on top of a tall bar stool, mic in
hand with her ankle supported as best she could.
The band pulled together that night and played really well
and although stuck in one place, Teresa pulled out all the
stops singing her heart out and entertaining the guests packed
on the dance floor until the final encore at the end of the
evening.
Suddenly some of our favourite song titles took on a whole
new meaning!! "Run to you"... "I
feel good"... "Dance little sister"...
"Walking in Memphis" and of course ..."Ain't
no stopping us now!"
It's that time of year again ...Summer, and this year
at least we do seem to be having one! The band generally try
to take a break from live work and normally book out most
of August to allow us to take our summer holidays in bulk
or at least roughly all at the same time. This means we have
less disruption to the bookings the band can take in the popular
summer wedding periods of June, July and September. No matter
where and how far we all end up going it's great to have a
break away from the band and to rejuvenate our enthusiasm
for playing together again come September ...which is already
looking very busy!
Don't forget if we don't answer your call straight away
please leave a message on the answer phone or email us with
any dates you are interested in and we will always endeavor
to get back to you as soon as possible.
Can we take this opportunity to wish you all the best
with your summer holidays.
As mentioned in our earlier
article the band were invited to play at this year's Downton
Cuckoo Fair, the village's biggest annual event. Once again,
a record number of people attended with over 20,000 turning
up this year. The band were situated outside the local Hopback
Brewery pub "The Bull Inn". With an ideal sunny
day and vast amounts of real ale on offer with plenty of seating
and tables, it proved to be the best place to be situated.
The band set up the equipment on a makeshift scaffold stage
and played five sets of songs throughout the day keeping the
longest for the very busy lunchtime period. With the sun shining
and the beer flowing, the crowd that had gathered soon got
into the spirit of the event and we had a great time playing
to a pretty large crowd. With the sun slowly sinking we finished
our final encore to cheers of "more".... now was
that for music or beer or both? We have already had the pleasure
of being invited back for next year so make it a date for
your diary.
INNERVISION were recently asked to play at
Blandford Stours Rotary Club Inaugural Spring Charity Ball
at The Corn Exchange in Blandford Town centre. On the evening
it wasn't long before the band had the floor packed with everyone
having a great time dancing.
The objective behind the Rotary Club's Ball,
as always, was to raise money for charity in an enjoyable
fun evening. On this occasion the event raised in excess of
£1500. All the more fun for us having an audience that knew
how to enjoy themselves getting up to the music ...having
a ball of a time!
As always, being so busy with Christmas functions
and parties throughout December, the band rarely get a chance
to get out together for a Christmas bash. So on Monday 27th
March (not a popular night for functions or Xmas parties!)
the band managed to have their Christmas meal followed by
a trip to The Brook in Southampton to see Andrew Roachford
from Roachford fame - does anyone remember Cuddly Toy from
1989?
We started the evening in a Thai restaurant
just up the road from The Brook and had a delicious, but not
very traditional Christmas meal comprising of various Thai
starters followed by a superb maincourse.
Then it was off to The Brook to see the band.
The place was fairly packed for what ended up being a great
set by Roachford. They had a very uncluttered sound and played
through an interesting set comprising some of the band's greatest
hits including some new material from their latest release.
Watching other bands is something we do as
often as possible. We get some great ideas from watching them
playing live, some of which we incorporate into our own gigs.
We're now looking forward to this year's Xmas do ...probably
sometime in March 2007 - Better late than never!
Although serving us well for the past few years
the band decided it was time to replace our reliable but old
Cerwin Vega P.A. system and build on our already extensive
use of the professional Mackie powered speaker series.
Mackie
SRM450 Powered Full Range Unit
Mackie
SWA1801 Powered Bass Bins
We have now invested in some amazing sounding Mackie
SWA1801 powered bass bins. They sound really great with
the two Mackie SRM 450's on top and give us the ability
to play some of the larger venues and outdoor events more
comfortably without having to push the PA system to it's
limits.
Although very compact we soon discovered that the new
bins are extremely heavy! We suppose that's why they are
supplied with caster wheels attached ready to.... rock and
roll!
We are pleased to announce
that we have been asked to play at the famous annual Cuckoo
Fair in Downton, Nr Salisbury on Saturday 29th April 2006.
This is Downton's biggest
annual event and is a craft/village fair suitable for all
the family. We will be one of the bands playing several sets
throughout the day and hope to bring a more modern edge to
the music at the fair which has previously favoured more traditional
jazz, blues and country bands. Why not pop along for a day
out and see us while you're there.
We will be playing outside
the Bull Inn which is on the corner where The Borough joins
the main road (A338).

INNERVISION
raise over £500 for the Children In Need appeal.
INNERVISION
helped raise money for Children In Need when they played a
charity gig at the Escobar in Salisbury. The night was well
supported and a great time was had by all who attended. Thanks
to the generosity of everyone, the total raised for this good
cause was a massive £510.
In an effort to give you
the very best live sound at your particular function Innervision
are always striving to keep up to date with the latest Technological
advances in both sound equipment and instruments. To this
end and in line with the bands policy we have just invested
over £4000 in Roland's TD20 Pro V kit. This is the very
latest pro studio quality drum kit, released by Roland in
the UK in 2005. The TD20 is the replacement of the first revolutionary
mesh head kit, the TD10, as used by the band previously. Trevor
has spent many weeks getting the kit "gig ready"
and is now using it live.
Trevor said "Although
the TD20 is full of brilliant new kits and real drum samples
which sound stunning through a set of stereo headphones, there
is actually quite a bit of programming to be done with the
various sounds to set up the particular drum kit combinations
and EQ's needed to play the kit live. It's a bit of a laborious
process but once complete the kits are then saved and are
ready to use at the touch of a button."
Trevor also said "Roland have
vastly improved the feel of the new kit and there are some
nice touches like adding a little snare rattle to your tom
and bass drum sounds to create that extra bit of realism when
it's needed. It also has the usual onboard arsenal of reverb,
echo, delay, compressors and ambiance effects that all help
to create that great Innervision drum sound"
